VMware's first quarter as a public company was an impressive one.
The company on Wednesday reported third quarter earnings of $65 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $358 million. Revenue was up 90 percent from a year ago. Excluding charges, VMware reported net income of $85 million, or 23 cents a share. Wall Street was expecting 17 cents a share on sales of $334 million, according to Thomson Financial.
VMware said that customer adoption of VMware Infrastructure drove sales in the quarter. "Companies large and small are moving to a VMware Infrastructure architecture for their data centers and, in many cases, for their desktops," said CEO Diane Greene in a statement.
The company (all VMware resources) didn't initially offer an outlook for the next quarter.
