Customers XPerienced enough to know they don't need it...

Sales of Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows XP, have so far failed to set the world on fire. Early data from the US shows that Windows 98 was a bigger hit with consumers than XP. Fewer than 300,000 boxed copies of the OS were sold in the first few days of its release, according to NPD Intelect - around 25 per cent lower than demand for Win98. However, XP sales to date have outstripped those of Windows ME, and given that NPD's figures exclude copies installed on new PCs (and considering the current economic climate), the figures are not that bad.
