'ZDNET Recommends': What exactly does it mean?

ZDNET's recommendations are based on many hours of testing, research, and comparison shopping. We gather data from the best available sources, including vendor and retailer listings as well as other relevant and independent reviews sites. And we pore over customer reviews to find out what matters to real people who already own and use the products and services we’re assessing.

When you click through from our site to a retailer and buy a product or service, we may earn affiliate commissions. This helps support our work, but does not affect what we cover or how, and it does not affect the price you pay. Neither ZDNET nor the author are compensated for these independent reviews. Indeed, we follow strict guidelines that ensure our editorial content is never influenced by advertisers.

ZDNET's editorial team writes on behalf of you, our reader. The Insignia 24-inch smart Fire TV dropped to less than $80 on Amazon

Smart TVs always drop in price around Christmas, but an $80 smart TV isn't a deal to be ignored.

Many major US retailers are still pushing sales on electronics including TVs, PCs, and audio equipment this holiday season.

On Amazon, the Insignia 24-inch F20 Fire TV currently just dropped to $80. The budget-friendly fire TV typically retails for $90 but is available with an 11% discount. It's not a vast price drop, but a smart TV becoming available for as little as $80 is certainly noteworthy ahead of the holidays.

The bargain Insignia 24-inch F20 Fire TV could be a great addition to a kid's bedroom, office space, or gaming room. The flat TV screen has a 1280 x 720 resolution at 720p and can be wall mounted if you prefer to save counter space. Plus, the Fire TV OS is built-in and Apple AirPlay is supported.

You're unlikely to find many better deals than an $80 smart TV before Christmas, but if this TV simply isn't big enough, you should also consider the 32-inch model, available for $50 off at $130.

An alternative on offer during Amazon's sale is a larger Toshiba model. The Toshiba C350 LED 4K UHD smart Fire TV provides far more screen space at 43 inches and usually costs around $330. Right now, Amazon is offering a $100 discount, bringing the price down to $230 for a limited time.
