Compaq pencils in Presarios for summer end

Compaq will delay the release of its latest Presario systems until the end of the summer although the SoHo-targetted units will ship next week in the US.

Lisa Clark, senior product marketing manager for Presario, said the PCs would likely ship in August or September as "the summer market is a little bit more lively in the US".

The desktops will tap two novel products: Intel's videophone and Compaq's keyboard with integral scanner. The release will also include the first Presario notebooks.

Compaq is expected to follow up by refreshing the Deskpro line and killing off the ProLinea range, launched in 1992 as Compaq's first 'clone-killer'.
