Samsung has strongly hinted it will unveil a new smartwatch, likely the Gear S3, at a press event on September 1 in Berlin, Germany at the annual IFA 2016 trade show.

In an image sent to the press, Samsung included a clock face motif, seemingly confirming a watch announcement. Samsung, of course, is remaining mum on specifics.

The Gear S3 is believed to have a round-face, along with an altimeter, a barometer, speedometer, and GPS capability, according to reports. The report suggests that the Gear S3 is likely to appeal to active people.

Samsung announced the Gear S2 in September 2015 at IFA. The new version is expected to come in three versions: a standard, "Classic," and a new "Explorer" option

The smartwatch announcement from Samsung comes before Apple's rumored September 7 media event where it's likely to discuss its Apple Watch -- and perhaps a hardware update.
