Seagate announced that it has hired Sri Hosakote, former head of engineering for Cisco, as its new EVP of systems for the Cloud Systems and Solutions group.

Hosakote spent 19 years with Cisco, most recently leading the networking company’s switching and wireless platform group. Prior to Cisco, Hosakote was a software engineer for Sprint Communications.

For Seagate, Hosakote will be tasked with developing modularized systems for OEMs with an emphasis on converged infrastructure, Seagate said. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company’s cloud systems group focuses on extending Seagate’s information infrastructure stack to the cloud.

"Sri's leadership will be an important driver as we extend Seagate's market position as a trusted partner in storing, protecting and sharing data by going beyond our leading disk drive business to deliver cloud systems and solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 'do-it-yourself (DIY)' organizations," Jamie Lerner, president of Cloud Systems for Seagate, said in a statement.

Seagate has made efforts in recent months to boost its enterprise-class PCIe flash offerings, and has also managed to gain ground in the surveillance and video analytics market, as well as with its cloud-based applications. Earlier today, the company unveiled a new Kinetic hard disk drive designed to replace legacy systems through the combination of open source object storage protocol with Ethernet connectivity.
