Apple's Tiger is set to pounce
Apple says that its new OS, Mac OS X version 10.4, or Tiger, contains more than 200 new features and applications. The highlights are Spotlight, a desktop search technology; and Dashboard, a new way to access information using widgets. The OS also allows for videoconferences with other Tiger users.
Dashboard and its widgets appear at the touch of a hot key. Other widgets can be launched from the bottom of the screen.
Probably the key feature of Tiger is its capability to search a hard drive from the desktop--something Windows can't do. To begin a search, simply click on the Spotlight icon in the upper right corner.
Apple's upgraded Safari browser features an RSS reader that can be activated from the address bar. A search box and the article length are displayed in the upper right of the browser window.
Apple's updated Power Mac G5s come loaded with the Tiger operating system. This model features a liquid cooling system.
This new G5 has a 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display, which has been reduced in price to $1,499.
Apple's new Tiger OS X for Macs comes in a black box.
