Dragon Remote Microphone

ZDNet UK is now recommending an App of the Day. It seems only polite, now we have our own app, to take a deeper look at this lively area of mobile tech — and, of course, we'll do it with the needs of enterprise IT at the top of the list.

1. Dragon Remote Microphone
This free app for iPhone and iPad allows you to dictate notes without a headset, using your iOS device as a wireless microphone. The app links up with Dragon's desktop software, Dragon NaturallySpeaking for the PC and Dragon Dictate for the Mac.

XE Currency

2. XE Currency
Available on Windows Phone 7, iOS, Android and BlackBerry, this app lets users convert global currencies on the go with live currency rates and charts. Users can calculate prices in their own currency with the app, and monitor up to ten currencies. They can even use it offline.

RealVNC viewer for Android

3. RealVNC Viewer for Android
You can get a few free VNC apps that do the same thing — remote control of your desktop from your smartphone — so why pay a fiver? The answer is: you get what you pay for. From the inventors of VNC, this app has lots of useful features such as strong encryption and a user interface that successfully manages both mouse and keyboard emulation over a touchscreen, is fast enough not to get in the way of most of the things you'll want to do, and is particularly good on tablets.

LinkedIn

4. LinkedIn
LinkedIn, the self-styled social network for professionals, has dived into the mobile sphere with its own app. Available for free on iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Palm, the LinkedIn app lets you exchange details with your contacts, set status updates, change your profile, fire back emails, and read the latest news headlines.
