Hands-on with the Energizer Qi Inductive Charging Pad with the Droid Charge

One of the things I loved about my Palm Pre Plus was the Touchstone inductive charger. Energizer has a Qi-enabled charging pad that works in partnership with a special back available on the Samsung Droid Charge. There are also charging solutions for various iPhone and BlackBerry models.

Check out my full ZDNet Smartphones & Cell Phones post for more details on this modern charging solution.

You need to purchase a back for the Droid Charge in order to use the Energizer Inductive Charger.

The inductive cover is modeled to exactly match the existing back cover and is just slightly thicker. As you can see on my Droid Charge the cover fits well and has an opening for the camera and speaker.

The inside part of the cover is where things vary as you can see here. There is a charging/connection system on the replacement back.

You can see where the connector on the Droid Charge back contacts the gold piece on the new back cover when placed together.

The Droid Charge support for inductive charging includes native messages for charging status. This message appears when your device is fully charged.
