Perfect Storm?

So here at last is the first touchscreen BlackBerry - aka the Storm.

The Storm - previously codenamed the BlackBerry Thunder - sports a 'clickable' touchscreen which RIM believes solves the problem of touchscreen users confusing navigation and confirmation, according to co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.

The HSDPA device includes a 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, an MP3 player and high-res screen for video playback. There's no wi-fi though.

Other features include an accelerometer and two types of virtual keyboard - when held in portrait format the Storm offers a BlackBerry SureType keyboard (two letters per 'key'), while in landscape mode there's a full virtual Qwerty.

Even though RIM couldn't squeeze wi-fi into the Storm, the company has managed to master the art of cut and paste on a touchscreen - unlike Apple's iPhone.

When it comes to battery life, the BlackBerry maker reckons you'll get six hours of talk time.

The Storm will be exclusive to Vodafone UK - and will be offered on a 24-month contract.
