ZDNet's Ultimate Black Friday 2010 guide to deals and steals

By | November 10, 2010, 5:00am PST

Summary: Black Friday — November 26, 2010 — is almost here. Here’s ZDNet’s ultimate guide to the sweetest deals and steals of 2010.

[Last updated on November 24: Borders]

Start counting the days…Black Friday is almost here. Some of us dread it, while others prepare months in advance. Don’t forget, even if you’re shopping for others, this is probably the best time of year to take care of getting some tech goodies for yourself.

If you haven’t already marked your calendar for November 26, you should do so now. And until then, you can sift through ZDNet’s ultimate guide to the sweetest deals and steals of 2010. Set the alarms on your smartphones, laptops and iPod speaker docks now.

But before you rush out the door on that early Friday morning (or hit up the awesome pre-sale events even before Turkey Day), here are some quick tips that might make your shopping experience smoother, if even a little bit enjoyable:

  • Check out ZDNet reviews before splurging on anything. (You never want to judge a gadget solely based on how good the packaging or design might look.)
  • If shopping online, check out multiple vendors to find the best price for that special something you have your eye on.
  • A lot of retailers (including Kmart, Sears, Target, Walmart and Best Buy) have pre-Black Friday sales. While these are never expected to be as good as Black Friday itself, they are definitely worth checking out.
  • This is the year of the e-book reader and 3D. Expect big deals on the former thanks to price wars that started back in the summer time. The Wall Street Journal is also predicting a strong focus on handheld gadgets in general this year.
  • Apple isn’t known for really going all out on Black Friday (or during the holiday season in general). So unless you buy something on Black Friday itself, you can always save this stuff until after December 31 if you need to make room in your budget.
  • Don’t forget to account for shipping and taxes. Fortunately, many online vendors will eat the shipping costs or you can take advantage of regular free shipping-minimum offers (i.e. Amazon’s Super Saver Shipping for orders over $25). Just make sure to give you enough time. Plenty of stores will advertise last-minute shipping the week leading up to December 25, but two-day and next-day shipping gets pricey.

Note: We’ll be updating this guide on a rolling basis when deals are spotted and published, so be sure to come back regularly and check for new listings. If you think something should be added or a deal isn’t correct/available anymore, please let us know in the TalkBack section.

Retailers posted so far: Sears, Fred’s, Kmart, Gander Mountain, Walgreens, Kohl’s, MacMall, Target (Toy Book and full store), Toys “R” Us, Macy’s, CVS Pharmacy, Bealls Florida, Radio Shack, Hastings, Costco, Meijer, Best Buy, BJ’s, AJ Wright, Menards, Office Depot, Staples, OfficeMax, Walmart, HP Home, Sam’s Club, Hhgregg, Cabela’s, GameStop, Amazon, Dell, Microsoft Store, Fujitsu

Retailers expected soon: Apple

I've started buying a lot of my gaming stuff from Sears lately. Been very impressed with service and prices.

How to get these great deals
blackfridaysecrets.net 10th Nov 2010
Let's face it guys. A lot of places are competing well. I think Amazon may have the advantage by not requiring their customers to fight the crowds. Most people go Black Friday shopping and end up getting skunked on the best deals. There are several places to get ads but there is only one place that has all of the tips, strategies and tools that the pros use to get those awesome Door Busters. For step by step directions on how to get those door busters and beat the crowds, stress free... visit http://www.BlackFridaySecrets.NET

The production technology is still in flux as is the display technology.
The RadioShack ad was released today on http://www.2010blackfridayads.com. In fact, they have all the ads. It's easy to keep up with the hustle and bustle of Black Friday because I get email alerts from them. I love their emails and they're really nice happy

Uhhh, I know it's on topic, but this is an advertisement for a book. Is this allowed on here?

Here's a deal that should get anyone interested in Android tablets excited (and not included in any big-box retailers book of savings):
10" Android Tablet with Android 2.1 for under $200 (with a keyboard/case): http://www.androidgold.com
Good stuff. Thanks.
just got a tablet from androidgold
most of the stuff is related to iPod, I guess everyone knows that with iPhone and other phones coming out with music players included, iPods are getting obsolete, hence, so many deals for iPod happy
