Just one day after Amazon announced and launched the beta version of its new used videogame trade-in program -- firing the first salvo in the war against GameStop for the used game market -- GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo says the "probability of this working is zero," according to Edge Online.

The program that Amazon launched allows consumers to ship, for free, games in good condition and receive an Amazon gift card for the game's predetermined trade-in value.

GameStop tried a similar mail-in trade program several years ago, but it was not very successful, DeMatteo said in the article.

"Electronics Boutique also tried it and failed. There's no consumer acceptance. With consumers, there is an immediacy for currency when they want to buy a new game.

"It didn't work for us, and I can't see it working for them."

As an online-only retailer without brick-and-mortar stories, does Amazon have an advantage that GameStop does not?
