MWC in pictures: The top smartphones, wearables, and tablets

The Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona is the showcase for all the hot smartphones and increasingly a launchpad for wearable devices and virtual reality kit too. This year has seen a particularly large crop of devices being unveiled at the show for the first time.

Probably the biggest launch at MWC was that of Samsung's two updated flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 (above) and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung has brought back an old favourite feature: SD card storage which was dropped with the S6.

Both the S7 and S7 Edge, seen above, are water and dust resistant, and can even be submerged in a meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

One of the more innovative devices on display was the LG G5 smartphone, with its modular design, metal uni-body, and slide-out battery.

LG is also offering a set of companion devices; by adding these, the G5 can be turned into a digital camera or music player. For example, the LG CAM Plus is a camera module that can be attached through the battery slot to provide a comfortable grip and extra features, while the LG Hi-Fi Plus is a speaker attachment.

Is this the future of the desktop? HP Inc showed off the Elite X3, a 6-inch phablet running Windows 10 Mobile, plus some additional pieces of kit: a Desk Dock to create the Continuum Windows 10 experience on a desktop monitor, and a 12.5-inch laptop-format thin client called the Mobile Extender.

Here's the new Xperia X, launched by Sony Mobile at MWC. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor and curved glass display.

This is the HTC One X9, an Android Marshmallow-powered device with a full HD 1,920 x 1,080 5.5-inch display, an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor with 3GB RAM, and 32 GB inbuilt storage. It will go on sale in North Asia and EMEA from the end of February 2016.

This is HTC's Vive consumer virtual reality headset, also launched at the MWC.

Pre-orders for the $799 device will start on 29 February 2016. It also comes with two "fully-fledged VR experiences" including one with is 'Job simulator' set in 2050. The company explains: "In a firmly tongue-in-cheek world where robots have replaced all human jobs, step into the 'Job Simulator' to learn what it was like 'to job'."

This is Lenovo's Tab3 10 Business, an Android tablet aimed at business users. Lenovo said the TAB3 10 Business is aimed at use cases from conference halls to the factory floor to a point-of-sale kiosk.

At MWC Lenovo unveiled a smartphone, the Vibe K5 Plus, featuring a 5-inch FHD display and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor, plus a 2750mAh user replaceable battery and 16GB built-in memory (up to 32GB expandable storage support). The phone, which also has a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front snapper, will go on sale for $149 in "select countries where Lenovo smartphones are sold", starting in March.

This is the Aquaris X5 Plus from BQ which runs Android Marshmallow. The 70 x 145 x 7.7 mm, 150g device packs a Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 652 octa-core MSM8976 processor, fingerprint sensor and 3100 mAh battery.

This is the $149 MV1, announced at Mobile World Congress by Obi Worldphone.

Here's the 5.2-inch display Blade V7 and a slightly smaller five-inch Blade V7 Lite from ZTE. The smartphone will be available in Germany, Spain, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Mexico by summer. For more see: ZTE unsheathes sub-$250 full-metal Blade V7, Blade V7 Lite

These Panasonic 4.7-inch handheld tablets come with a choice of two operating systems: the FZ-F1 runs Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise operating system, while the FZ-N1 is powered by Android 5.1.1. Both feature a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

This device has an IP67 rating for tolerance to dust and water submersion, and the ability to withstand drops from 1.8 metres.
