NT government extends three contracts with NEC

IT and communications service provider NEC has scored extensions for three contracts with the Northern Territory (NT) government.

These include a network management contract, a voice network management contract, and a desktop and server support contract; all for an additional 12 months.

NEC has been working with the NT government for over decade, and employs 240 staff members in the territory, according to a company spokesperson. The service provider acquired the Technology Solutions division of CSG, another company that had worked closely with the NT government last year, and has fleshed out its IT services capabilities since then.

For the multimillion-dollar network management agreement, it entails NEC looking after a number of areas, including the wide area network (WAN), which has over 500 data communications links, local area network, firewalls, and web front-end systems.

The NT government operates on an NEC IP telephony network with 20,000 users across over 300 sites. NEC will continue to manage this network in the new contract.

The desktop and server support contract extension will begin on July 1, 2012, and covers 16,000 desktops and 400 servers across 500 sites.

Last month, NEC won a three-year extension to a managed services contract with the Department of Parliamentary Services that the company inherited through buying CSG Technology Solutions.
