VMware is making a number of announcements at VMworld today. At note from VMware's analyst relations folks included a quick summary of what they were going to announce.

Here's what they had to say:

  • Cloud Infrastructure and Management: VMware is announcing its expanded vision for modern IT infrastructures and six new products and services that help enterprises and service providers achieve the benefits of cloud computing while maintaining the control and freedom of choice they require.
  • Cloud Application Platform: VMware is announcing its cloud application platform strategy and solutions, enabling developers to build and run modern applications that intelligently share information with underlying infrastructure to maximize application performance, quality of service and infrastructure utilization.
  • End User Computing: VMware is announcing its vision for the future of end-user computing with new products and services to help organizations evolve their legacy desktop computing environments to a more modern, user-centric application and data delivery model.

It is clear that the company is heavily focused on cloud computing infrastructure and expanding their virtualization story to better include the client side of the equation.

VMware partners are also making a slew of announcements in the areas of security, management of virtualized and cloud resources, desktop virtualization and security

What's missing from the list? Absent are VMware announcements in the area of storage virtualization and storage in the clouds, network virtualization and standardization of cloud application frameworks.
