SINGAPORE--Professional photo studios here can now take portraits, view the unfinished products, choose the desired ones, and maybe even print them on the very same day, thanks to a new digital studio solution by direct digital imaging company Phase One A/S.

Called Portrait Studio, the software package is aimed at portrait and studio photographers in Singapore. It is the Denmark-based company's first fully integrated portrait workflow solution, which enables established portrait and wedding studios to go digital.

The solution comprises four components that cover the gamut of studio needs--from studio management and picture capture to image presentation and photo printing.

To the photographer, the instant review of images and retake of unsatisfactory ones can translate to a more efficient workflow and cost savings in film, said a spokesperson for Phase One at a press conference.

For example, photo labs equipped with Portrait Studio can set up a digital studio that can offer image capture, processing, editing and selection on the same day. As such, customers do not need to visit the studio again to view and select images on a separate day, as with most photo studios now. Express prints may even be possible for customers to bring home on the same day.

Once the pictures are ready, the software can allow the customer to view the images, decide on the necessary adjustments to the selected ones and place orders on the spot.

For the final output of photos, the Portrait One Print Lab takes over as an in-house photo lab. It sets up print jobs, ensures color accuracy in output images and creates digital copies of pictures for e-proofing purposes.

Digital photography also brings along a new set of possibilities in providing services such as CD production, Web site creation, image sharing and retouching.

Local distributor Diversitec Distributors Pte Ltd is bundling the Portrait One software with a LightPhase digital camera, Compaq Pentium III 1GHz desktop system and an Epson 7500 large format digital printer for a retail price of about S$50,000. Mac users can choose a PowerMac G4 733MHz system for a bundled price of about S$43,288.
